James was born on 12th April 1895, the son of James Taylor a coal miner, below ground, and his wife Catherine (nee Potter). In 1901 and 1911 the family was living at Fletcher’s Row, Ironville. James had two sisters named Lily and Kate Eliza.

No military information has been forthcoming.

In 1936 James married Harriett Rickers (nee Powell) the widow of James Arthur Rickers, who had also served and survived WW1 but had tragically died of pneumonia in 1935.

James Taylor and Harriett had two sons Kenneth and John. Harriett also had a daughter named Lona from her first marriage. James and Harriett lived at Laverick Road and later at Wagstaff Lane. James worked at James Oakes Colliery where he suffered a head injury and later died in 1940 aged just 45.

Harriett went on to marry Norman Waterfall just after the end of WW2.
