Private Philip Abbott
Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment)

Philip Abbott was born in 1895 at Ironville, son of Philip Abbott an ironworks’ roller born Ironville and his wife Harriet (nee Derry) born Bingham, Notts. Philip had elder brothers and sisters Ellen, Mary, Fanny and George W. Philip’s mother Harriet died in 1898, aged 50 when Philip was only 3 years old and in 1901 his widowed father and the family were living at 16, Foundry Row, Ironville, Derbyshire. By 1911 they had moved to Back Lane, Barrows Hill and Philip senior and the family were living in the household of Frederick and Mary Bond (nee Abbott, sister of Philip junior). Philip then aged 16, was a labourer at the pipe yard. Nothing has been discovered about Philip’s military service, apart from the fact he may have been a Sherwood Forester. If this is so, he may have been the recipient of Silver War Badge number 352400.
Further information would be welcome.
