Crawford Lawrence servedLawrence Harold was born abt. 1896 son of John Dunn Crawford a railway clerk, born Filey, Yorkshire and his wife Jane born Studley, Warks. Siblings were Cyril Percy, Florence Irina, Beatrice May, Janice Rhoda, Clarice Maud, Raymond Neville and Herman Seymour who is also listed on the Jacksdale War Memorial as having served. In 1911 the family was living at Talbot House, Dixie Street and Lawrence’s occupation is given as a wagon builder’s assistant at the colliery. Lawrence’s place of birth is given as Hinckley, Leicestershire.

Lawrence’s Medal Rolls Index Card indicates that he enlisted on 4th July 1913 but was discharged on 28th April 1917 due to sickness and received Silver War Badge number 190354.

In 1918, Quarter 4, he married Elizabeth Barton in the Basford Registration District and they had children John H. b. 1920, Kenneth b. 1925 and Brian b. 1930.

Lawrence died in 1975, Basford District.

His parents are buried at St. Mary’s, Westwood, John died in 1956 aged 86, residence given as 10, Dixie Street and Jane died in 1928, aged 59.
