A new era in football at Jacksdale Miners Welfare
The start of the 2013/14 football season has seen a new set of lads grace the pitch at Jacksdale Miners Welfare. Playing on a Saturday, the boys are competing in the Notts Youth League Under 18’s Division 1.
The team, being Managed by Andrew Dennis and supported by Stuart Jackson, have decided to be known as Jacksdale Miners Welfare Colts, and have been given a very warm welcome to the Welfare by Ydelle Wilbraham, the club steward, and all her team.
Both Andy and Stuart have been coaching the team for the last few years together and are both FA qualified Coaches.
Made up of lads from the local area including Jacksdale, Selston, and Brinsley - the team have made a fantastic start to the season.
Pre-season friendlies saw the lads play a number of games including a visit to the Dale Club from Priory Celtic Under 18’s. This Thursday evening game saw Jacksdale put in an emphatic performance and they ran out 5-2 winners.
Saturday 31st August, a lovely sunny morning in Jacksdale, saw the lads play in a local derby with Selston FC Under 18’s. This eagerly anticipated friendly was a great warm up game for the up-coming season, and with some wonderful performances from all the Jacksdale players, saw them yet again finishing the match with a winning 5-2 score line.
Saturday 7th September saw the league competition start with an away trip to Carlton Town FC. A good battling performance but not a great start to the season with a 4-3 defeat.
Onwards and upwards and the boys are now unbeaten and currently sit joint second in the league.
The ethos of the team is to provide a group of 16 and 17 year old lads the opportunity to play football in a friendly focused environment, and give them opportunity to develop themselves with the chance to take coaching badges and refereeing qualifications.
The team would also like to give their thanks and appreciation to local Councillors Liz Mays and Gail Turner who have very generously given the team funding grants to assist with the initial set up of the new team. This means so much to all of the lads and it really does help with the costs of running a youth football team.

The team are always happy to welcome new players and if anyone would like to join the team please contact Andy Dennis on 07970 067866. All support for the boys is also welcome and we have a number of home fixtures during November 2013.
