One Piece of Coal

By Bill Kitson

Life seems to me, like the coal on a fire,

Flame dispersing life, getting higher and higher.

Burning away, is this one piece of coal,

A constant reminder, of body and soul.

Like unto life, is the flame that we see,

It's meaning the same, for both you and me.

For as sure as this flame, will fade and then glow,

Tis sending a message, we shall all have to know.

That its fast fading light, is now nearing its end,

This moment of life, we cannot extend.

So savour each moment, relax, do not dash,

For one piece of coal, is now nothing but ash.
