HOSPITAL DAYS 1917 & 1918

Submissions welcome !

Prior to the formation of the National Health Service, it was up to local communities to raise monies for local hospitals themselves.

Hospital Days were an annual event, much like a carnival with decorated drays and fancy dress - to attract onlookers who would hopefully give generously to the cause.
Many of the Hospital Days were held at the 'Jacksdale Institute' otherwise known as the Miners' Welfare.    The above group were members of the Primitive Methodist Church.
