The Funny BandSubmissions welcome ! |
The actual date of this photograph is not known - but this colourful character, Sammy Traunter was entertaining as far as back as 1921. In May 1921, Sammy and his 'Funny Band' were the star attraction at a 'Children's Day' held in the Monument Grounds at Codnor Park. The children assembled at the Ironville & Codnor Park School and were led by Sammy Traunter and his band to the nearby Monument Hall, where ' a substantial tea was provided'. 'After tea, sports were entered into and before leaving for home each child received a bun'. The event had been organized to cater for the recreation and well-being of the children of Butterley Company Employees, who were out of work at that time.
The tradition obviously continued ... as this is a photograph of a more modern day 'Funny Band' - Coronation Day 1953.
