In the presence of a large attendance, Mr Chas Henry Oakes of Hollyhurst, Riddings, opened on Saturday afternoon, the newly erected Pye Hill, Jacksdale, and Westwood Working Men's Institute situate at Jacksdale, which has been generously provided by the firm of Messrs. James Oakes and Co., at a cost of about £2,000.  The premises have been splendidly equipped, and fitted up with two full-sized billiard tables.  As a souvenir of the occasion, Mr. Oakes was presented with a silver key, bearing his initials and a suitable inscription.  Amongst those present were Mrs and Miss Laverick, Alderman James Oakes J.P., Mr Chas. Henry Oakes junior, Dr Pounden, Mr V Hill, Mr JHW Laverick, the Revs C Harrison, AV Hodges and AB Reid, Councillor C Green and others. Speeches were given by Mr CH Oakes, Mr CH Oakes jun., Mr JHW Laverick, the Rev. C Harrison, the Rev A V Hodges, and Councillor C Green.  A luncheon was afterwards held, eighty sitting down.  About 200 members have already been enrolled
